Before the Brazilian man’s unexpected passing in a car accident earlier this week, Wagner Figueiredo de Lima and his horse Sereno were the best of friends. Wando, Lima’s brother, made the decision to accompany Sereno to his owner’s funeral because he knew how much the horse meant to him. According to Wando, who spoke to Globo News, “It was as if the horse knew what was happening and wanted to say goodbye.”
Sereno started circumnavigating the casket while sniffing surrounding it. Then he let out a neigh. It was an extremely powerful feeling. Everyone who was present felt something flow through them. When Abreu observed that scene, it brought him to tears.
The next thing that happened was that the horse came to a stop and laid his head against the coffin as a final gesture of respect. According to the brother of the deceased man, “All the way to the cemetery, he would whimper and beat with his hooves on the ground.”
