Let us celebrate the world’s oldest married pair, husband and wife

A couple in Austin, Texas, has recently earned an enviable title that many will aspire to but few will accomplish. John Henderson, 106, and Charlotte Henderson, 105, have just become the world’s oldest married couple, with a combined age of 211 years, according to Guinness World Records.

On December 15, they will also celebrate their 80th wedding anniversary. Their love tale began in 1934, when they met in class at the University of Texas. In December 1939, they married and spent their honeymoon in a $7 hotel room.

So, what’s the secret to the couple’s record-breaking marriage and living to reach over 100?

John declared in 2017 that he lives in moderation. They never do anything out of the ordinary. Consume nutritious foods. Rest well. Don’t overdo it with alcohol. Eat in moderation. Also, do plenty of exercises.

John is the oldest surviving former UT football player and one-half of the oldest married couple. And for the past 84 years, the couple has attended at least one UT football game every season.

Charlotte added that after John retired, they had a great time. They traveled much. They basically keep themselves occupied all the time, which certainly helps.

The couple now helps out at Longhorn Village, a senior living facility for UT workers and alumni.

Congratulations to the wonderful couple, and best wishes for many more wedding anniversaries!
