Knott County Central High School athlete died just days after assisting flood victims in the community.
While Knott County is still cleaning up from the catastrophic flood waters that ripped through seven eastern Kentucky counties, killing at least 37 people, a young Patriot athlete died on Saturday.
Crawford, like so many other mountain athletes, was sharing time on the practice field and helping clean up their affected communities.
According to Perry County Sheriff Joe Engle, Aaron Crawford, a Patriots football player and wrestler, was helping victims Wednesday evening when he began to feel ill.
Crawford was transported to the University of Kentucky’s Albert B. Chandler Hospital, where he died.
“He loved superheroes, and he was a real life superhero,” Engle added.
The cause of death was unknown to officials.
Funeral arrangements have not been made public.
As Crawford’s body is returned to Eastern Kentucky, a police escort is expected to begin at County Line Church near the Breathitt/Perry County line around 10 a.m. Monday.
